The Conversation House was a three-day event and exhibition that was created for the purpose of community building and connection with others. It consisted of a campaign leading up to the exhibition that took place in downtown Anderson SC. The event was targeted at the student body of Anderson University, where the campaign was, also being made open and available to the surrounding community.
Process:
The process started with determining who the target audience was. After some deliberation, the group decided that there was a need at our college for a place where students could have the opportunity to forge new friendships and connections. Throughout many iterations, we decided that the exhibition should give a relaxed, fun, comfortable feeling where people could feel able to interact and connect with strangers. these decisions were reflected in the color choice, typography, and station experiences. Thus The Conversation House was born.
Outcome:
The exhibition featured five key stations for attendees to interact with, mirroring the five stages of a conversation: introduction, listening, asking, check-in, and connection. Each station was inspired by the responses gathered from the campaign. The stations engaged each viewer to participate in sharing their experiences, whether at the school or in life in general.
My Role:
I designed and constructed the partition walls used for the stations. The walls had to be lightweight, using minimal material, while being sturdy enough to endure constant interaction throughout the exhibition. I was also charged with the designing and creation of the six boxes used during the campaign and check-in portion of the exhibition. I was also a part of the space planning team and did a virtual layout of the available space to help the group better visualize the layout. It was then used by the branding team for the design of the pamphlet.
